(4)TWO VISITERS TO THE ALM

A year went by, and Heidi was eight years old.

One spring morning, she saw an old gentleman dressed in black marking his way up to the cottge.

It was the pastor.
He had come to ask the Alm-Uncle to live in the village during the winter, so that Heidi could go to school.

But grandfather was a stubborn old man.
He hated the villagers and wanted nothing to do with them.

The pastor shock his head sadly, and returned to the village.

Later that day another visitor arrived.
This time it was Aunt Dete, dressed i the fine city clothes.

Grandfather was not pleased to see her.

Dete explained that she had come to take Heidi to Frankfurt.

She knew of a wealthy businessman who wanted a companion for his invaid daughter, and Dete thought Heidi would be perfect.
