It was not long before the giant appeared and Jack hastily climbed a tree.
He had not tried the sword and wondered whether it would work.
This did not put off giant, who stepped towards the tree. held out his hand, and heaved.
He tore the tree up by the roots, and as jack fell to the ground, jack's sword grazed his flesh.
The giant fell down dead.
Jack was guarding his master's cattle the next day, when another giant appeared.
" You dare to slay my brother ? " the beast bellowed.
Jack drew his sword and felled the beast with one blow.
As he looked at the massive corpse, Jack wondered if there were any more in the giant's family.
On the third day, another giant appeared.
